The BBC did a documentary titled “Coolies: How Britain Re-invented Slavery”. It’s mostly about Indian indentured labor world wide, but significant parts document the story as it pertains to British Guiana.
Several of the factoids mentioned are quite gruesome but recounted in a very pleasant manner.
You can view it on YouTube here.
Or download it in high def here.
You can read much more from John Edward Jenkins 1838-1910
in his book:
The Coolie his rights and wrongs
Notes of a journey to British Guiana, with a review of the system and of the recent commision of inquiry.
Published 1871
“A hundred thousand hogsheads of sugar per annum in the world, more or less, is a tittle compared with the question – Wether the toilers who produce it are wronged and unhappy?”
Excellent Artist: Well done> I am trying to figure out the themes; they look as though they are mixed together in the picture; I see a hospital with patients; then I see a man being hung. Maybe its all the rights and wrongs put together in one picture, but well done.

the British reinvented slavery mostly it was about Indians indentured labor worldwide, then in 1619 twenty Africans were brought to the English colony of Jamestown, Virginia and that is when they started to enslaved black people!

It is so interesting to see this..I knew nothing about the history of Indian Indentured Labourers. I am trying to trace my Indian ancestors who were brough to British Guiana circa
1838…19012. Could anyone give me some advice on how to get hold of the Passenger Lists of the people who travelled on these ships.
